Goliad High students performing UIL competition play for public

The Goliad High School theatre troupe will perform their UIL One Act Play to the public at 2 p.m. Sunday in the school’s auditorium.

The play, “The Sweet Science of Bruising” tells a story, inspired by the real history of female boxing in Victorian London, of four very different women in their bid to become Lady Boxing Champion of the World. As they spar and train under the tutelage of an eccentric trainer/promoter, all four women find an unexpected sense of freedom and solidarity in the "sweet science."

Although the stakes for victory soon reach life-changing heights, a different fight awaits each of them in the world outside the ring.

This show has earned a frist place award in the initial round of UIL competition.

At the bi-district UIL competition, also hosted at Goliad High School, judges gave the performance fourth place, or alternate play designation.

Special recognition during that competition went to:

All Star Tech — Remi De La Rosa

Honorable Mention Cast — Ansley Von Dohlen

All Star Cast — Kate Billo

Best Performer — Destiny Aguayo

While there is no admission fee for this production, they are accepting donations to fund future productions.
