Tigers secure spot in playoffs

Goliad Varsity baseball team had no trouble with offense, over coming a slow start for a big win over Odem Owls, 11-1.

The Tigers tallied four runs in the sixth inning to put Odem down for good.

Goliad put the pressure on, lead by singles by Kolton Duval and Angel Hernandez, a walk by Dasen Tinney-Anderson, and hit by pitch Ty Marek.

Colby Rosenquest earned the victory on the mound for Tigers. The righty lasted 4-2/3 innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out seven.  Andrew Alonzo and Leighton Wunsch entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Daniel Lopez took the loss for Odem Owls. Lopez went four innings, allowing five runs on three hits and striking out two.

Duval led the Tigers with two hits in four at bats.

With the win, Goliad locked in the third place seed for this year’s playoffs. With one remaining game left in the regular season, the Tigers travel to Mathis to close things out Tuesday.

Playoff opponent is still unknown but will be either SGA or Banquete. Stay tuned for important playoff and possible warmup game information.
