State Assessment Overview
“STAAR is the state's testing program and is based on state curriculum standards in core subjects including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. STAAR tests are designed to measure what students are learning in each grade and whether or not they are ready for the next grade. The goal is to ensure that all students receive what they need to be academically successful. Meeting these individual student needs depends greatly on schools, parents, and community members working together.” -Texas Education Agency

TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System) is an assessment program developed by the Texas Education Agency (T.E.A.) to meet state and federal requirements for students in Texas public schools who are learning the English language. The TELPAS and TELPAS Alternate allow districts to assess the progress that emergent bilingual (EB) students make in learning the English language. Our LPAC (Language Proficieny Assessment Committee) utilizes the data produced from the TELPAS assessment to implement appropriate interventions for our English learners.
